Maxed Out

With the move coming up our last few days have been hectic to say the least. But all in all we have been making the most of our time here by spending time with family and friends. I wanted to wear a dress this weekend but when the weather dipped into the 60's on Sunday a maxi skirt was my best option. One of the most versatile items in my closet has got to be this skirt, I can dress it up or down, with flats or heels and it works in hot or cold temperatures. Obviously I should invest in a few more maxi's since I get so much use out of them.  Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Dear Atlanta

This upcoming week will be extremely hectic as we finish packing our belongings and head out of the city we've been living in for the past three years, Atlanta and drive back to Miami. While we are excited for the change and all the new things to come it's always hard leaving family and friends. Goodbye's are never pleasant.

After living in "the South" for sometime I can truly say I am a sun and beach girl at heart, however this city definitely has its charm. In an effort to make the most of this last week I decided to make a list of some of the memories I'll always cherish from my time in this city, I'd like to think of it as my "thank you" card to Atlanta.

  • While living here I got married to my husband (even though our wedding was actually in Puerto Rico) we were living here in Atlanta.
  • Experienced snow for the first time!
  • One day in the city I had an epiphany and realized what my true passion was and subsequently changed my major from Political Science to Journalism.
  • Graduated from college
  • Was able to land an amazing internship at one of the top broadcasting companies (later becoming my full-time job) where I have learned and trained next to some of the best and most talented individuals in the industry.
  • Being away from what I was used to allowed me to grow and mature in a way that I may not have otherwise.
  • Lastly, where I took the leap of faith and decided to start my newest project, this blog, which has opened my eyes and creativity in a way I will always be grateful for.

Pink and Leopard

This outfit includes two of my favorite things: pink and leopard. I've had this H&M blouse forever and for one reason or another never got around to wearing it except once. I dusted it off and paired it with this little cardigan (which literally can be matched with anything in my closet) and pulled it all together.

Vignette fun

{pretty in pink}

{basic black}

{inherited pieces(purse, pin and necklace) from my grandmother}

At work I sometimes I have to create vignette's to represent an idea or a project (in a much different type of format than this since I work in television) but today I decided to create a few for still's and pure enjoyment!

Oversized

On Saturday the weather felt slightly cold in the morning and after searching through my closet and not finding anything to wear I immediately ran over to my husband's closet and found this gem. It's so oversized that I had to pair it with tight jeans to balance it out. And even though the temperature ended going back up into the 70's later that day (which made for an extremely uncomfortable day)  I was happy to have made a new discovery and I ended up shopping his closet the entire weekend.

It's the little things

We went on a family apple-picking adventure (wanted to try something a little different) and I found the cutest little apple! However, be warned "apple-picking" sounds a lot nicer and fancier than what you will actually encounter on your adventure.

Apples in every size and color you can imagine.

Sweet lighting spotted at dinner last night.

I decided to open up my winter boxes and chose a few fall accessories to put into rotation.

Hope you guys have a great weekend! Ours will consist of packing, packing and packing. In my true procrastinator nature I haven't packed any boxes and we move in two weeks. No worries, I work well under pressure.  ;-)

NYFW Make-up Ideas {to try at home]

Even though fashion week is all about new clothes and style I couldn't help but pay more attention to the new beauty trends than the actual clothes going down the runways. I rounded up a few (super easy and simple) techniques, from switching my regular black mascara for a cobalt color or applying a thing line of hot pink eyeliner, to switch up my everyday make-up routine this Fall and Spring.

Jewel Toned

Even though black and white will forever be the perfect color combination for me (for fashion and home) I love exploring other options. This kelly green blazer quickly became a favorite when I spotted it a couple of weeks back at a local boutique. I can't wait to layer it with different jewel tones like citrine or ruby red.

Floral Innocence

This skirt feels so sweet and innocent paired with these heels but I can see myself wearing it with ankle boots and a knit sweater when the weather cools down a bit for an edgier look.

9 Date-Night Essentials

It has been a very long time since I went on a "first date". My husband and I dated for 4.5 years and have now been married for two years, so it has been six and a half years to be exact. Even though we don't have a scheduled date night every week we do like to keep the tradition of going out on dates alive. There's just something special about getting dressed up and trying out a new restaurant, show or going to a concert that never really gets old.

So I compiled this short list of nine date-night essentials that I have found to be fail-proof, for a first-date or just you're regularly scheduled date-night.

1. A fun heel. It can either be colorful or printed but it should definitely be eye-catching.

2. Something red. I chose a red nail polish because I think it's the ideal way to add that touch of red without over-doing it. I would not recommend red lipstick on a first date especially if you're going out to eat, so many things could go wrong here!

3. An over-sized clutch. You'll need it to hold all of your essentials.

4. Solid perfume. This is the easiest way to freshen up after dinner, especially if your heading to a movie afterwards. Solid perfume is so easy to apply and leaves a soft scent, that way it won't smell like you went into the bathroom to spray yourself down!

5. Wisp mini toothbrush. Not much explain needed here but ALWAYS make sure to clean those pretty whites' after dinner.

6. Bronzer. There's no better way to feel sexy than a fresh tan, bronzer is the closest thing to that (without the harmful effects). Brush a little where the sun would naturally hit you: over your forehead, nose, cheeks and under your jawbone.

7. Mini compact mirror. You'll be wanting to make sure everything is under control on your face so make sure slip a small mirror into your clutch.

8. Mascara. Pile it on. Apply about four coats making sure to allow each coat to slightly dry before you apply the next one. This is currently my personal favorite mascara.

9. Light pink lipgloss. Definitely go for a neutral lip. You want your face to look and feel fresh and natural on your first date.

And lastly, enjoy your night!

Lipstick Cocktail

Even though a girl can never really have enough lipsticks sometimes I'm not too sure I want to step out of my"color comfort zone" and try colors I've never tested in the past. So I figured a safe way of discovering new shades within my comfort zone is by mixing colors I already have with each other. I usually go with a nude shade for my lips, orangey tones or bold red lips.

The process of mixing the lips colors is extremely simple.

1. I just heated in the microwave whatever colors I wanted to mix together at 15-second intervals until the lipstick was melted (be careful not to burn it).

2. Then I placed the new-found shades in these small plastic containers and let cool in the fridge for about 30 minutes.

If you want any color you mix together or a lipstick color you already have in more of a lipgloss texture, just repeat the same process with a little dab of Vaseline to get a smoother and shinier texture.

A Fall Transitional

Fall is officially underway and I couldn't be happier, it's actually my favorite season of the year. However one of the most difficult parts of Fall is knowing when exactly to leave the short skirts, sleeveless tops and sandals behind and dress up completely in Fall wear. That's when this little number comes into play, a denim jacket. It can be so versatile year round but I found this weekend it can be the ideal transitional piece for the Fall, when it's still warm but slightly chilly at night. This one happens to be thrifted and I can honestly tell you I didn't take it off the entire weekend, which you can see if you follow along on my Instagram adventures @cynthiarod!
